Message from the Queen Sirikit Cup Secretariat

It is my great honor to send my message to all participants, supporters and organizers on the 30th Anniversary of the Queen Sirikit Cup for Asia-Pacific Ladies Invitational Golf Team Championship.  Many of you who have been involved in this prestigious tournament either as team members, coaches, captains, supporters, organizers or sponsors, will no doubt share my pride and happiness that the Queen Sirikit Cup has now reached a new milestone of uninterrupted 30 years.

When I first proposed the idea of this team championship in 1979, it never occurred to me that the ball would be kept rolling this far. I feel most grateful that golf officials of our member countries have shared my vision to make the game of golf a great way to build lasting friendship, sportsmanship and at the same time help raise the standard of ladies golf in our part of the world.

As I look back through all the years, I feel more convinced that the Queen Sirikit Cup championship has been a successful tournament because of the dedication and commitment of member associations and their officials. There were times and occasions that we were faced with doubts and unexpected situations, but somehow we all put extra efforts to help overcome such drawbacks. The friendship and cooperation I have received from various organizers and supporters during the past 30 years have given me continued encouragement while the success of many former team players who are now world-class professionals would undoubtedly inspire today’s players to set their goal for the future.

On this special occasion I would like to dedicate the success of the championship to the Founder President of Thailand Ladies Golf Association, Mom Kob Kaew Abhakara, who was responsible for obtaining H.M. the Queen of Thailand’s Royal permission to have the challenge cup in Her name and for having been present to support all events during the first decade. I also wish to thank Japan Golf Association and the R&A for coming to my rescue to host this tournament out of turn at the last moment. I may readily say that our Womens’ Spirit can be kept flying high because of the gentlemen’s kind understanding and continued support for ladies’ golf.

May the Queen Sirikit Cup Golf Team Championship be kept rolling by all concerned into many more decades to come.

Message from the JGA

On behalf of Japan Golf Association, it is my great pleasure to welcome you all to our country to participate in the Queen Sirikit Cup Asia-Pacific Ladies Invitational Golf Team Championship of 2008.

This is the third time that we are hosting this Championship, and Japan Golf Association is indeed honored to be chosen as the site of this year’s event after the difficulty the Championship had to face earlier this year.

In the mean time, I also would like to share with you that this is the 30th Anniversary year, and Congratulations everyone that you are part of the history of this prestigious event.

Since inaugurated in 1979, Queen Sirikit Cup has been organized and run by ladies of Asia-Pacific, and regarded as the accomplishment of better understanding and friendship among different people and cultures of the region through the Game of Golf.

We pay great tribute to what has been done for these 30 years of history.

Let me also take this opportunity to thank Sodegaura Country Club for their willingness to host the Championship with their best effort to prepare the course and facilities to welcome lady golfers of Asia-Pacific although it was such a short notice.

Our sincere appreciation goes to R&A for their continuing guidance and financial support to make this Championship successful as ever.

I certainly wish everyone Good Luck, and enjoy your stay in Japan.

Message from the R&A

We are delighted to be once again supporting the Queen Sirikit Cup being played this year in Japan.

This is the fifth consecutive year that The R&A’s Golf Development Committee has contributed towards this highly significant event in women’s amateur golf. Our support of £15,000 typifies the work done by The R&A today in an effort to encourage the playing of competitive golf worldwide.

Later this year, the 2008 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy will be played in Adelaide and many of the competitors playing here this week will undoubtedly be looking to prove themselves worthy of selection for that event too.

We hope this will be a highly competitive and memorable week for all concerned and look forward to hearing how it all unfolds.
